I begin work!
Thanks to those of you who read my candidate profile and letter box flyer and chose to vote for me to represent you on the 2006-2010 council.
If you have been able to follow up by viewing the Council minutes for Nov and Dec you will know that your new councillors have had a very full-on introduction to the work.
State Aquatic Centre: The legal arrangements and Domain land transfer to the State Government have been completed. It has accepted our requirements for community facilities and for parking. The Centre and the proposed GP Plus medical complex may be built together with late 2009 the estimated completion time for the Centre. On opening, our remaining contribution of $5m will become payable. Our return on the total investment (land and cash) in rate revenue is expected to exceed $1/4m per annum.
The open-air pool complex: Appropriate asset management processes (budgeting, maintenance and risk assessment) were carried out during the life of the last council and this will continue beyond the new term. The opportunity and political climate now exists for the community and council to work together to “extend the use” of this little gem.
The Marion south plan: Council staff has been working with government and other interested parties. Steady progress on the proposed feeder road and shopping centre redevelopment has continued to the legal agreement and technical planning stages.
I expect to continue to represent you on the issues raised in my profile and flyer.
