Open letter to Residents
Dear Resident,
Welcome to over 1350 new home owners and your 4000 family members, who have come to the Marion Council area, since I was first elected as a Central Ward Councillor for the 2006-2010 term.
Any information about Council is available on www.marion.sa.gov.au.
Any information about me and my work over the past 4 years is available on this website.
Many groups and individuals in the community have seen their plans and hard work come to life during this term.
- The Aquatic Centre with its 50 metre pool, 50 metre water polo pool, 10 metre diving tower, hydrotherapy pool, leisure water slides, learn to swim and toddler play area. The new Car parks, GP Plus and Mental Heath Centre combine with the Aquatic centre to create a unique State Government owned and operated facility.
- Patpa Drive, formally known as “the connector road” between Trott Park and Hallett Cove.
- The major retail re-development at Hallett Cove Shopping centre.
- The redevelopment of the Warradale, Marion, Maid of Auckland and Tonsley Hotels and other entertainment venues as “Non Smoking” venues.
- The expansion and upgrade of the Marion Sports and Community Centre.
- The three High Schools I have most contact with; Westminster, Seaview and Hallett Cove, have all carefully managed their Commonwealth funded upgrades. Seaview has also achieved international status after 8 years of hard work.
- All our Primary Schools involve their communities in many exciting activities. Special mention of; St Martin de Pores redevelopment (I have seen grow out of a paddock to become an icon of Marion), Seaview Downs for their new playground, outdoor gym and Pedal Prix participation, and Warradale for their wetland.
- Our current Volunteers have contributed over $1m in services to our residents in the current year. The new gates off Ocean Boulevard and fire breaks around the O’Halloran Recreation Reserve have highlighted the work of others who started the revegetation over 20 years ago.
- Mayor Felicity-Ann Lewis was elected by her peers as president of the Local Government Association.
During the next term 2010-2014 we will see the expansions of Westfield Centre and Castle Plaza completed, and, the building of the Oaklands Aquifer Storage Recharge system to supply reclaimed (purple pipe) water to some of our reserves.
You will receive your Southern Hills ward voting papers on the 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th or 29th October.
Your postal vote is important. It can be posted back any time before 12th November (5 pm).
Please feel free to contact me on 83584087 to discuss any Council issues or to attend any meeting.
Yours sincerely,
Frank Verrall.
Central Ward Councillor Marion.
